    Bokor

Bokor…. Bokor… In the voodoo religion the Bokor is the warlock that serves the Loa with both hands. He uses his Black Magic to simultaneously serve Good with one hand and Evil with the other.  Bokors are human not deity and they have a short life due to the all the evil they produce during their life. Bokor’s good does not outweigh their evil and they must consume all the evil they produce.  They only live an average of 30 years because of this consumption of evil.  However, as they consume it, they take the evil out of the world and in their consumption they end up serving good.

The Bokor strainer was sculpted using a real skull from a 30 year old male. The handle is a finger symbolizing the directions and decisions you have made in your life that have gotten you to where you are. In the middle of the strainer, between the skull and the finger there is the word Bokor engraved by hand. This strainer was produce using more brass to create a very heavy strainer. This was done to create a tool that can be used as a strainer, an ice scoop AND a mallet for crushing ice in your lewis bag.

Each piece is numbered in the nail and in the center of the skull (in the center of the mind) the Bottesi logo.

Sculpted by hand. The fourth 3D strainer made by Bottesi. Cast in brass. No welds, one solid piece of brass. Clean only by hand. No Dishwashing. Limited edition. Numbered pieces. Polish by hand. • Tolmay Bottesi
    Tolmay Bottesi

    Tolmay Julep Strainer

Tolmay strainer is the second 3D strainer produced and designed by Bottesi for the 2018 collection. This strainer can be used like a julep strainer has been sculpted by hand and cast in brass. Each piece is unique with a slightly different finish from the hand crafting process.

The strainer was inspired by the paintings of Dino Valls. An accomplished Surgeon turned professional painter paintings investigate the darkness of the human soul. Born in 1959 in Zaragoza and a resident of Madrid since 1988, Dino is still a valued member of the art community. We have obtained his permission to produce a strainer inspired in his paintings.

The main part of the strainer is a female face without eyes, with a clear reference for the human future. The handle is a 3 leg compass containing the Bottesi symbol.  The 3 leg compass is a symbolism of 3D over 2D. At the end of the handle there is a hole to hook the strainer in your work station. Near to the hole you will find the series number of your Tolmay strainer.

Due to the brass weight and hardness the strainer can double as an ice scoop as well.

  • Kukulkan Strainer Bottesi
    Kukulkan Strainer Bottesi

    Kukulkan Strainer

Kukulkan Strainer from the 2018 collection is designed and produced by Bottesi in Madrid. Kukulkan was the name of the Mayan snake deity.  The feathered serpent also known as Quetzalcoatl in Aztec mythology has many stories surrounding his origin and role in the world.  One story remains constant, born a man then turned snake and finally after much hardship, plumed into a feathered serpent capable of changing the winds and quaking the earth.  Almost always depicted as biting his own tail.

The depiction of the Feathered Serpent is present in other cultures of Mesoamerica as well. Kukulkan that bites his tail has a clear likeness to Egyptian iconography for the Ouroboros, another ancient symbol present in Bottesi Symbolism.

The handle is made with two Mayan glyphs.  The meaning of these glyphs is another secret of the Bottesi symbolism.

With it’s intricate design, multiple holes and closed loop spring this strainer is entrancing, durable and practical for straining ice and fruit as you pour.

This is a 2018 collection item. Kukulkan will be available only during 2018.

  • Calaca strainer Bottesi
    Calaca strainer Bottesi

    Kalaka Strainer

Kalaka Strainer from the 2018 Collection is inspired by the zinc etching of Mexican printmaker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer José Guadalupe Posada.

Originally called La Calavera Garbancera, La Calavera Catrina has become synonymous with Día de Muertos or Day of the Dead. During the Day of the Dead in Mexico the people honor their ancestors carrying on a tradition stemming back as far as Aztec times to what was a month long celebration honoring “The Lady of the Dead” and all the souls she guided.

This strainer designed and produced by Bottesi presents a Spanish take on the Mexican Día de Muerto Skull.

This strainer can be used as a stencil as well with cinnamon dust or an angostura spray.

Thanks to the Bottesi design and the multiple holes in her surface, the strainer is perfect for the throwing technique with a boston shaker.
